CHODSKÁ VLNA

Chodská vlna or „Bagpipe rock“ – derives inspiration from the texts and tunes of Chodsko songs from songbooks collected at the turn of 19th and 20th centuries. One thing in particular connects the players and singers – most of them also participate in various folklore ensembles.

BURDON (UKRAINE)

Burdon („bour-don“ - drone) is a folk band from Lviv, in the west of Ukraine. The young folk musicians formed the group in 2002 and have quickly developed their musicmaking to an impressive level and built up a rich repertoire of traditional tunes, rural ritual songs, old ballads and cheerful dances. Burdon‘s repertoire is mostly based on traditional music from Ukraine, Hungary and Romania.

The pipe band with street organ, double-bass and drums present their own compositions and traditional music which are composed and arranged in their unique style. The band performed in the concerts and festivals in Germany and abroad.

WICK RBLS PIPE BAND

Wick RBLS Pipe Band was formed in 1909 by soldiers returning from the First World War. The band provides tuition in piping and drumming for both children and adults. The band has a very busy programme in the summer playing at events around the north of Scotland and in the Pipe Band Hall in Wick.

THE MEN´S CHOIR HALTRAVAN

The choir from Klenčí pod Čerchovem was founded in 1984 by the solo singers Albert Švec and Oldřich Heindl. The songs they perform belong to the most valuable works of Chodsko culture. The folk songs are from the collection of Jindřich Jindřich, accompanied by bagpipes and other folk instruments.

FOLKLORE GROUPS OF THE MUSIC SCHOOL IN DOMAŽLICE

There are two folklore groups and three bagpipe bands at the Music School in Domažlice (The Little Bagpipe Band, The Youth Bagpipe Band and the bagpipe band of the ensemble Drndálek, grouping altogether about 90 children. Their leaders are: J. Holoubková, V. Konrády and J. Kuneš.

The Jiskra ensemble was founded in 1958. There are 40 members - dancers, singers and musicians. Since the beginning the ensemble performs the folklore of South-West Bohemia, especially from the Pilsen Region, Chodsko Region and Žinkovy Region.

FOLKLORE GROUP KOZANI – GREECE - „FRIENDS OF TRADITION“

The Greece folklore Group Kozani „Friends of Tradition“ was founded in February 2005 from certain friends of delivery aiming at the research, study and safeguarding of cultural heritage of their region, the culture of interest for acquaintance with the traditional dances and the remaining sides of delivery as well as the social contact and communication between the members, so that are developed relations of acquaintance and solidarity from each other and with other persons.

KONRÁDY’S BAGPIPE BAND

KBB was founded in 1955. In more than 50 years they acquired the highest appreciation and approval not only at home but abroad as well. Several best singers, men as well as women, recorded Chodsko songs with KBB for the radio and the band celebrated their 50th anniversary of the foundation.

It originated in 1994 as the Youth Bagpipe Band, was renamed the Domažlice Bagpipe Band in 1998. They interpret the original Chodsko folk music. In 2001 the first CD „Ha ty svatyj Vavřinečku“ (And You, Saint Lawrence) was released..

The children’s folklore ensemble Mráček was founded in 1989. It propagates the beauty of the costumes, songs and dances of the Chodsko region. The ensemble has got its own bagpipe folk music Bulácí. The members are children aged from 5 to 15.

SESTRY KUŽELKOVY (KUŽELKA SISTERS) – MARIE FREIOVÁ AND JANA HOJDOVÁ

They, together with their progeny of two generations already, perform Chodsko songs in two or three voices accompanied by the bagpipe duo, the violin – bagpipe, or a capella. The songs with lyric topic belong among the most favorite. 

 

 

KUD DRAGUTIN DOMJANIC – VUGROVEC (CROATIA)

Traditionel folklore group from Croatia was founded in 1969 and performed in its musical, dance and drama section. The group was re-established in the end of 2002 and currently has 150 active members.

We founded a new brass band with the name Domažličanka in November 2000, Jan Mleziva from Domažlice became the bandmaster. Our repertoire is very broad, from brass and dancing to other music genres.

It plays dance music, but in brass music genre concentrates on arranging Chodsko songs, with those Hájenka then represents Chodsko at festivals like for example Kubešova Soběslav, Vačkářův Zbiroh, Strážkovice Ády Kubaty, Chodsko Folk Festival.

HORALKA BRASS BAND

Originated 34 years ago, it was founded by Karel Bastian, together with Václav Wiesner. Present bandleader is Josef Kubalík. This brass band plays at concerts, celebrations,dancing parties, as well as at festivals of brass bands, for example in Trhové Sviny, Třeboň, Soběslav, etc.

„Liduška“ brass band under the leadership of Jiří Huřťák successfully, alike the folk groups, takes part at various concerts,fastivals, and competitions. The orchestra became a reservoir of musicians who not only supplement but also form their own brass bands.

Jan Votruba’s unconventional Chodsko brass band Stavovanka was formed in 1984, originally as Domažlická dvanáctka and Jásavanka. This ensemble is focused on folk songs from Chodsko and foothills of the Bohemian Forest, and on compositions of Czech brass and dance music classics.

The excellent musicians from České Budějovice perform the brass music of the South-Bohemian region. The band consists of 14 musicians, 2 singers and the conductor Áda Školka.

VRCHOVANKA BRASS BAND

They began to practise in 1995, then the average age of musicians was 15 years. Rehearsals were encouraged by Stanislav Švandrlík, a teacher from the Music School. In 1996 Petr Němec becomes the bandleader and the soloists Martina Johánková and Jiří Kupilík start off. The latest asset is the second singer, Jana Jarábková.
